Low Cost Spay & Neuter Assistance
"Project Catnip"
Project Catnip (our
Subsidized Spay/Neuter Program) helps to reduce feline
overpopulation in our area by preventing births thus reducing the
animal suffering that occurs simply because there are too many
domesticated cats and not enough homes to go around. People of our
community benefit from this program as well because the
sterilization of a pet eliminates many health issues for their
animal friend as well as unwanted behaviors associated with
reproduction. Furthermore, spaying/neutering saves our community
dollars. It is far more costly to round up, care for and euthanize
the offspring of these animals. Spay and Neuter Programs are
essential to the humane elimination of this tragic and costly
problem.
349 Cats were sterilized through Catnip in 2007. Project
Catnip has spayed/neutered 2,088 needy felines since Program
inception
Cats need to be healthy
and at least four months of age or 4 pounds to participate.
Upcoming Spay/Neuter Dates
April 19-20; May 17-18; June 14-15; July 12-13; Sept 6-7;
Oct 4-5; Nov 1-2 tentative.
By appointment only - please call in advance to schedule.
Currently, there are
continuous and immediate openings in the surgery schedule for male
cats throughout the year (the
neuter surgery with a rabies vaccine can be obtained for only
$30.00). There is some wait time for
female cats through this program, but those who have no immediate
options for spaying and need assistance should contact the SPCA for
future scheduling and alternative assistance information. The spay
surgery with a rabies vaccine can be obtained for only $50.00. In
the case of multiple cats or situations whereby these fees are
considered a hardship, the surgery may be made available at a
reduced rate or free thanks to the kindness of a donor. The program
is by appointment only. Interested parties should call today -
776-3039.
Please help us to spread the
word about this important program. This Program is made
possible through the support and kindness of our community.
Anyone interested in general
spay/neuter information or having his or her cat spayed/neutered
through this Program should call the Shelter (776-3039) and ask
about Project Catnip. Anyone who would like to forward a donation
in support of this program should mail their check to: Finger Lakes
SPCA, Inc., 7315 State Route 54, Bath, New York.
