About Network for Good

How to Help

Membership

As you probably are aware, the poor economy has made it particularly difficult for the Finger Lakes SPCA to make ends meet during this past year. As with many other charities, we have seen donations, upon which our very existence depends, decline significantly. We have planned and carried out various new fund raising projects and have reviewed our operations to take steps to save costs. Nonetheless, we still face the possibility of seeing the humane programs, like Spay/Neuter and Animal Cruelty, drastically reduced. We have made such good progress; we really hate to lose ground. We need the decided support and input of concerned individuals, like you, who will become Members of the Finger Lakes SPCA.

As a Member you will receive the following benefits:

  1. You will receive periodic updates on the activities and plans of the Finger Lakes SPCA.
  2. You will have the satisfaction of participating in a structured financial and organizational support team that is integral to the strength of our operations and necessary for favorable responses in grant applications, other sources of funding, and community animal welfare initiatives.
  3. You will receive our newsletter, The Pet Gazette, with special articles and reports about your Shelter's activities and progress.

Your donation is fully tax deductible. Over 97% of all donations go directly to work helping local animals. The Finger Lakes SPCA is a non-profit agency registered with the NYS Office of Charities, Albany, NY. We gladly accept checks payable to the Finger Lakes SPCA OR for your convenience use our new secure on-line credit card donation service.

You can become a member today! Donate now through Network for Good. All donations of $25.00 or more qualify for membership.

Volunteer Program

Goal of the Program

The Finger Lakes SPCA, Inc. is always looking for volunteers to help with various duties and functions that are integral to the smooth and efficient operations of our animal welfare organization. Volunteers help staff to carry out our day-to-day operations at the SPCA and become emissaries of our goal. The goal of our volunteer program is to enhance the programs and services our SPCA offers which help us to achieve our mission.

All SPCA Volunteers are regarded as ambassadors who represent the shelter's goals and mission. Although, we are an animal welfare organization, our services and programs always aid and involve people. The bonds between companion animals and people are strong. For this reason, all SPCA jobs require good people skills. Additionally, working together as a team requires patience, cooperation, understanding, communication, a positive attitude, and most of all commitment. This is especially important even if you do not always agree with certain policies or procedures. Please remember your ideas and constructive suggestions are always welcome and changes often occur as a result in our effort to improve.

Volunteer Informational Meetings

Informational sessions are conducted for individuals who have an interest in volunteering at our SPCA. They are held at least bi-monthly or more frequently, if needed. This informative meeting gives the prospective volunteer a chance to meet our Volunteer Coordinator, discuss SPCA programs and initiatives, and gain a clearer perspective on what help is needed.

All Volunteer Positions Require

  • Extraordinary Compassion and Concern for Animals
  • The Ability to Work Well With Others
  • Dependability

Finger Lakes SPCA Needs Board Members

The Finger Lakes SPCA, located in Bath, New York, provides humane services for Steuben County and the Finger Lakes Region. Volunteer help is needed on our Board of Directors, especially candidates with non-profit or business management experience. One critical area new board members will need to work on is fund-raising. New candidates for the board need to be energetic, comfortable with nonprofit fund-raising, socially and professionally active and have a wide range of contacts. Candidates must reside in Steuben County. Candidates should be able to attend monthly meetings and work on at least one SPCA annual fund-raiser.

If you love animals, are not afraid of a challenge, have a flair for meeting people and are not shy about asking for contributions, we would love to hear from you today. For more information about the SPCA’s mission and board recruitment process, please all Vicki Mosgrove, Executive Director, at 776-3039.
