About Network for Good

Press Release - 18 December 2008<- click for details and photos - and donation needs list.

We would like to extend a heartwarming thanks to those members of the Fans of Barbaro (FOB) who made financial contributions in support of the recent hay drive which ultimately helped to make the purchase of 650 bales of hay possible. They (the FOBs) solicited donations on their website, and thanks to head fundraiser Chris (hopelavendar), almost $3000 was raised. Maryland resident Fran (Boxwood 6) secured the hay from a NY hay dealer, and deliveries were made to two of the satellite farms in New York which are caring for multiple horses that were rescued from Norcrest/Middlecreek Farm in Troupsburg, New York . Thank you FOBs and those folks from Fran's horse internet group (including the Finger Lakes Railway) for your kind and generous donations.

We appreciate all your calls and contacts to the Finger Lakes SPCA in regard to this critical animal protection effort/rescue. However, we are experiencing high call volume & e-mail overload to our main/general e-mail account. To help facilitate communication and insure you receive a timely response to your contact in regard to these horses, please use the following e-mail address:

horserescueny@yahoo.com

It would also be very helpful if you could label the nature of your contact in the subject line (e.g. Donation; Foster/Adopt; Owner Inquiry; General).

Who We Are

The Finger Lakes SPCA was founded in 1949 as the Bath Animal Shelter. We are a nonprofit organization supported by private donations and the local community. We serve Steuben County in West/Central New York State and the surrounding communities.

Our Mission

  1. Promote the humane treatment and care of all animals within its area.
  2. Enforce the New York State animal cruelty laws.
  3. Provide education for public awareness of the humane treatment and care of all animals and the specific responsibilities of companion animal guardianship.
  4. Provide spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and other clinics which promote the health and welfare of animals.
  5. Provide a facility to house stray and unwanted animals in a manner which shall sustain their health and welfare.
  6. Aggressively work to reunite lost animals with their guardians.
  7. Encourage the adoption of stray and unwanted animals.

Why Should You Adopt From an Animal Shelter?

"Animal shelters are your best source when looking for a pet. Not only do they have a great selection of adult animals for adoption, but they also have kittens and puppies, even purebred animals. In fact, on average, purebreds account for about 25% to 30% of a shelter's dog population... [more]"
